You Do Not Own Rivers State – Wike Informs Amaechi
Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has scolded the Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi, saying he is not the one to choose who runs for governorship position of the state.
Amaechi, a previous governor of Rivers State, had said that there is no battle in between him and Wike, clarifying that the issue between both of them was because of Wike’s decision to run for a 2nd term.
The Transportation Minister, Rotimi Amaechi made this revelation while showing up on Sunrise Daily, a programme of Channels TV.
Responding while talking to newsmen on Tuesday, Wike said the state government wants everybody to come back and work together for the State of Rivers to move forward.
Wike also said that it will be unfortunate if Amaechi, a former governor of the state made such statement when he is not even a member of PDP, the party that gave him the ticket to go for a second term. According to Wike, his party gave him the chance to go for a second term because he deserved it due to his numerous achievements.
The governor remembered an earlier declaration supposedly attributed to Rotimi Amaechi in 2015.
“If I did not do well in my first tenure, my party, PDP, will not allow me to fly the flag of the party. Remember that in 2015, the same man vowed that over his dead body will I be governor of Rivers state, it’s on tape, and everybody knows that.
“It is not in his place to say that I should not go for a second tenure; it is for the people of Rivers state, it doesn’t matter what his opinion is because he is not the owner of Rivers state, he is not the people of the state, he is one person in the state.
“We have a population of not less than six million people and not less than 3.5 million registered voters. And therefore, it will be irreconcilable for one man to say his anger is because I want to go for a second tenure. It is the people of the state that will decide,” he concluded.
