This new development was as a result of EFCC opening a fresh probe into the senate president activities when he was the governor of Kwara state from 2003 – 2011.

Should we call this fresh trouble for Saraki or witch hunt?

We will leave that for the court to decide.

EFCC seized Bukola Saraki’s houses

Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) informed Kwara State government why Saraki is being probed by the commission. According to them, Bukola Saraki is to be investigated for alleged case that has to do with conspiracy, abuse of office, theft, money laundering and misappropriation of public funds.

Some of the houses, like 15a and 15b recently seized by EFCC were declared by the Senate President in his asset declaration form and were part of the trial that brought him before Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) of which the case was later dismissed because it lacked verifiable evidence.

The ant-graft agency believes that some of the houses located on that street were purchased by Saraki from the Presidential Implementation Committee for the Sales of Government Property through shell companies.

Saraki spokesman, Yusuph Olaniyonu released a statement which confirmed the sealing of the properties.

Read the statement below;

“Our attention has been drawn to the fact that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has marked certain property belonging to Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, obviously under the claim that they are subjects of investigation.

“The action of the EFCC only reinforced our earlier stated position that their current investigation is mischievous, contrary to the tenets of the rule of law and only aimed at settling scores.

“This position is founded on the fact that these same buildings were the subject of earlier investigations by the EFCC, as well as the case initiated by the Federal Government at the Code of Conduct Tribunal.

“Also, the case went all the way to the highest court in our country, the Supreme Court of Nigeria. In that case, Dr. Saraki was discharged and acquitted because the courts believe the government has no case.”

With this latest development, should we conclude that Saraki is now under the surveillance of EFCC till the expiration of his tenure as senate president?
