Osun State Cannot afford to pay new minimum wage of N30, 000 – Oba Rasheed Akanbi

Rasheed Akanbi, the Oluwo of Iwoland, has cried out that Osun State is sick and will not be able to pay the new minimum wage of N30,000 unless its civil service is overhaul.

The monarch expresses his mixed feeling about the new minimum wage bill that the senate just passed. He said that many states are struggling to pay the old rate of N18, 000 to the least paid workers. According to him, the state civil service was over-bloated and complete overhaul need to be carried out immediately.

Oba Rasheed Akanbi said;

“Osun is sick. The governor, Oyetola, may not be able to say this truth because he is a politician. But I am a royal father. I should be good to tell the truth always. It will be tough for the state to pay the new minimum wage, unless there is a complete overhaul of the civil service.

“The current wage bill of the state government cannot be sustained. The civil service needs overhaul. A situation whereby 26 drivers will be attached to two vehicles must stop.”

The monarch suggested that Osun government must find a way to make unproductive civil servants productive. He said that workers should be placed in the office where their skills would be useful. He also said that the government should not over look the informal sector and should focus on that sector to generate internally generated revenue.
