Bad Roads Not Cause of Accidents on Highways –Babatunde Fashola

Babatunde Fashola, Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Works and Housing said yesterday March 20th, that bad roads are not the cause of accidents on our highways.

Fashola made this statement at a capacity building workshop on the activation of the 5 United Nations’ Convention on Road Traffic acceded to by Nigeria in Abuja. He said that most injuries and accidents that are avoidable that happens on our highways are not always due to bad roads as claimed by road users in this part of the world.

Fashola pointed out that the main causes of accident in Nigeria are over speeding and reckless driving. The Minister, in a statement issued by the Federal Minister of Power, Works and Housing, noted that injuries and avoidable accidents that occurred daily on highways were regrettable.

The statement also revealed that Fashola told participants at the capacity building workshop that there was no state in the country that the Federal Government headed by President Buhari was not executing one road project or the other.
