Google has acquired the .dev domains
Google has acquired the .dev domain, a Top Level Domain from ICANN when it made available to the web new generic top level domain some years ago. Some of the generic top level domains that was acquired by Google are .page, .dev, .app, .soy, etc.
The price of getting a .dev domain is very high in the market place like GoDaddy which is a major domain name registration company. Some of this new generic top level domain can be purchase from GoDaddy. The idea behind the hike in price is to manage demand and also make some money from companies that are urgently in need of a given domain name. You can buy a .dev domain for about $3,100 today but come 28 February the price decreases to about $20 yearly.
Apart from Google who have started using the .dev gTLD, other big companies like Salesforce, GitHub, Codecademy, etc, has also started using the .dev gTLD.
As Google has acquired the .dev domains, the domain will require a secure connection HTTPS to protect users from Wi-Fi snooping, tracking injections and malware.
