Things You Should Know About Anambra Election

The election will be conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Saturday, November 18, 2017, and voters advised to be at polling unit by 8 am that day.

A record number of 37 candidates from 37 different political parties are in contention for the governor’s seat. The state’s incumbent governor, Willie Obiano of the All Progressives’ Grand Alliance (APGA), will face stiff competition from the major contending parties which are People’s Democratic Party (PDP) with candidate Oseloka Obaze and Tony Nwoye of the All Progressives’ Congress (APC).

According to the Delta State Police Command, there will be a restriction movement by vehicle on the popular Niger Bridge during the election. The restriction will start from 12 am on Friday which is 17 of November, till after the election.
Though people on official and emergency duties will be given passage but with a genuine means of identification.

11,000 officers from seven state and 300 dogs will be deployed for the election, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) revealed this.

Anambra State commandant of Civil Defense Corps, Mr. John Ahwe, said that drones (4 in numbers), medical teams with ambulances, vehicles (115 in numbers) will be deployed on that day. The police will deploy about 21,000 officers, the use of water boats and helicopters to ensure a safe election.

Idemili’s North constituency state House of Assembly election will take place on Saturday.

Friday, November 17 has been declared as a work-free day by Governor Obiano to enable civil servants to relocate to their electoral wards and vote.

The state’s Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for the election is Dr Nkwachukwu Orji.
