The recent kidnap of the divisional police officer (DPO) in charge of Sarkin Pawa, Niger State was described by the Inspector General of Police (IG), Ibrahim Idris as awkward and embarrassing.
In a meeting with Police Commissioners and some senior Police officers in Abuja, Idris, told policemen to protect themselves first and to tread carefully.
He also argued policemen to be deployed to flashpoint areas to take care of security because the presence of police in these areas would help in the reduction of crime, Idris also said commissioners of police would be responsible if anything happens to any police man under them.
The Inspector General of Police lamented how gun men kidnapped a DPO two days ago. He wonders how a DPO who is suppose to have security men around him will drive alone as if he has nobody. IG of Police, advised the senior police officers to make good use of the men they have to protect themselves because they are targets. Ibrahim Idris concluded that the missing ACP’s have been kidnapped since his vehicle was recovered without him.
