Mr. Godwin Emefiele, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, has incited foreign investors to come into the country. He made this call at a forum of capital and money market players, investment bankers, treasurers and other fund managers at the London Stock Exchange at the weekend.
This forum was put together by the London Stock Exchange, in conjunction with the Nigerian Stock Exchange. At the meeting, Emefiele clearly told the investors that the Return on Investment (ROI) in all sectors of the Nigerian economy is among the best in the world.
In his presentation, titled: “Nigeria is ready for business,” he said the country was completely out from what was its worst recession in decades. He explained the ongoing improvement and the huge opportunities available to investors in several sectors, especially agriculture, solid minerals and infrastructure.
Attendees were; the British Minister for International Development, Hon. Priti Patel, Nigeria’s Minister of Solid Minerals, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, Mr. Godwin Obaseki the Governor of Edo State, Chief Executive Officer of the London Stock Exchange, Mr. Nikhil Rath and his counterpart in the Nigerian Stock Exchange, Mr. Oscar Onyema. Others were Mrs Patience Oniha and the Group CEO of Afrinvest, Mr. Ik Chioke, and Director General of the Nigeria’s Debt Management Office (DMO). The Nigerian banking sector report conducted by Afrinvest was also launched at the event.
Report clearly showed that Nigerian banks have remained flexible and very profitable, in spite of the numerous challenges in the country’s economy as at date. Emefiele was given the honor to ring the opening bell for trading at the London Stock Exchange last Friday.
